Pottermore House Quiz — FAQ
Pottermore (now Wizarding World) is the official Harry Potter platform created by J.K. Rowling. It features a Sorting Hat quiz written by Rowling herself that assigns you to one of the four Hogwarts houses based on your answers to personality questions. This quiz is inspired by that format.
In canon, you belong to one house. However, many fans identify strongly with two houses — these are sometimes called "Hatstalls" (the Sorting Hat takes more than five minutes to decide). This quiz shows your top house but you may score closely on two.
According to data from Pottermore, Hufflepuff is statistically the most common sorting result, followed by Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. However, the distribution varies across different quiz versions. No house is inherently better or worse than any other.
Absolutely not. Slytherin values ambition, resourcefulness, and determination — all positive traits. Many great witches and wizards, including Merlin himself, were Slytherins. Sorting into Slytherin reflects drive and cunning, not villainy. As Dumbledore said, our choices define us more than our abilities or our house.
